East Leake Academy is proud to have the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) – a comprehensive library facility for students to use during and outside of lesson time, and for quiet study, or  recreational reading. The LRC is stocked with 10,000 books, journals and desktop computers for students throughout the school and has an employed member of staff to support students accessing resources during the school day.

The LRC plays a key role in supporting reading and literacy within the academy. It is a well-used space that raises academic standards and outcomes, supports the development of independent learning and reading for pleasure, as well as introduces students to ways of archiving, researching and studying that are common practice in further and higher education.

Literacy development continued across the school through the use of Accelerated Reading – software that monitors and records students’ reading ability and comprehension. Staff and students work together to track progress and set new targets.

Catch-up premium

Through the catch-up premium scheme, East Leake Academy offers additional support with literacy and numeracy for each year 7 student who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of key stage 2.
