Paris through the eyes of year 8
During a seven-day residential trip, our year 8 students recently had the opportunity to explore the wonders of Paris, filled with exciting activities, breathtaking sights, and enriching experiences. They also witnessed the city preparing for the upcoming Olympics, including seeing the iconic Olympic rings displayed at the Eiffel Tower.
The adventure began with a picturesque boat trip on the Seine with Bateaux Parisiens. As we cruised along the river, students captivated by the stunning architecture and historic landmarks. The cruise offered a unique perspective of Paris, setting the tone for the rest of our journey.
After the boat trip, we headed to Montmartre, home to the magnificent Sacré Coeur. Walking down the charming Rue du Chevalier de la Barre and Rue du Mont-Cenis, we made our way to the vibrant Place du Tertre, where students enjoyed a delightful break at the café La Bohème du Tertre. The atmosphere was lively with artists sketching portraits and the scent of fresh crepes filling the air. Next, we strolled through beautiful gardens to reach the Montparnasse Tower. Ascending the tower, students were treated to panoramic views of the Paris.
The next morning followed with a visit to the Arc de Triomphe. From there, we walked down the Champs-Elysées, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of one of Paris’s most famous avenues. Our walk led us to the tranquil Le Jardin des Tuileries and the magnificent Le Louvre, where students admired the museum’s grandeur and took pictures of its iconic glass pyramid.
Walking along the Seine, we reached the Ile de la Cité, home to the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral. Students admired the cathedral’s impressive rose window and intricate Gothic details, reflecting on its historical significance. No trip to Paris would be complete without visiting the iconic Eiffel Tower. Our students embraced the challenge of climbing the stairs to the first and second levels, before taking the lift to the third floor. The views from each level were spectacular.
Before concluding our trip, we experienced FlyView Paris, a virtual reality adventure that allowed students to “fly” over the city’s most famous landmarks. This immersive experience offered a unique and exhilarating perspective of Paris. It was the perfect end to an incredible trip, filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
