House competitions: spreading kindness this Christmas

Students from Eagle, Harrier, Kestrel, and Osprey have the opportunity to earn house points by participating in three meaningful competitions designed to spread kindness and make a difference in our community this Christmas.

Reverse Advent Calendar

Students are encouraged to donate items to help those in need. Each contribution to the reverse advent calendar earns 10 house points. Students have until Tuesday 17 December, to bring in their donations.

“My dear new friend” letter writing

Students can write letters to older adults in care homes to help combat loneliness. Each thoughtful letter submitted will be rewarded with 15 house points.

Cards for kindness

Students can create cards for residents in local care homes and day centres. Every card made earns 5 house points.

East Leake Academy’s annual ‘Revue’ awards

The countdown is on for the much-anticipated ‘Revue’, set to take place on Thursday, 19 December. This cherished yearly tradition, organised by the sixth form, features: music, series and films – all in good humour!

Students in years 7-11 will each have the chance to watch the event, ending the term on a high! Momentum is already building, with posters displayed around the academy. We’ll share the highlights next week.

Festive outreach and year 6 transition

Mrs Clarkstone, East Leake Academy’s dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and Youth Mental Health First Aider, has been busy spreading joy and support across the community as she begins her year 6 transition visits.

This week, Mrs Clarkstone visited students at Lantern Lane Primary, Costock Primary, Millside Spencer, and Normanton on Soar, taking the first steps in building relationships with future East Leake Academy students. In addition to her visits, she had the pleasure of attending several festive and engaging school events. On Monday, she joined Lantern Lane Primary for their uplifting Christmas carol concert, which she described as “absolutely joyful and inspiring.” Later in the week, she visited Normanton on Soar for a wonderful nativity rehearsal, featuring beautiful carol singing, and supported a Maths lesson at Millside Spencer, where she heard about exciting upcoming lessons that she’ll be attending.

Today, Mrs Clarkstone will round off her week of visits by attending the magical Christingle event at Costock Primary School, continuing her efforts to connect with students and schools in the local community. These visits are just the beginning of East Leake Academy’s year 6 transition programme, designed to help students feel welcomed, excited, and well-prepared for their journey into secondary school.

12 days of Christmas attendance event

East Leake Academy has been spreading joy with the 12 Days of Christmas attendance event during 4–19 December. Each day a student attends, their name is entered into a daily prize draw.

The prizes have been growing in size and value, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the final weeks of term! By day 6, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as students eagerly visited the attendance office, hoping to see their name on the winner’s list.

With even bigger prizes promised as we approach the final days of term, students have been demonstrating incredible dedication to attendance. We’re proud of everyone’s commitment, keep it up for more chances to win as we head into the home stretch of this festive attendance celebration!

Celebrating extra-curricular achievements

To recognise and reward commitment, Christmas cards were handed out to students who have attended extra-curricular clubs this term.

At East Leake Academy, students are encouraged to explore their passions and try new activities. From sports and creative arts to music and trips linked to the curriculum, the academy provides a wealth of enrichment opportunities for all. These clubs support academic aspirations while nurturing existing talents and encouraging self-expression. View our extra-curricular timetable here.
