Sixth form visit Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament

On Friday 15 November, thirty of our sixth form students travelled to London for an insightful visit to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. During the visit, they explored Westminster Hall, a significant location where many notable international politicians have spoken. The highlight of the trip was the chance for the students to stand in the House of Commons and experience life on both sides of the benches. One student had the privilege of engaging in conversation with a member of the House of Lords, after discovering a shared interest in international rugby. The day concluded with a workshop at the Houses of Parliament, where students created their own political parties and manifestos.

Year 10 students explore the University of Oxford

This week, a group of 35 year 10 students recently visited University of Oxford, where they had the opportunity to experience university life firsthand. Their visit began with a presentation by a current undergraduate student at Magdalen College, who shared insights about life and studying at Oxford. Following the presentation, the students were given a tour of the college, which they described as “stunning.” Many expressed that they could never afford to study there, but the undergraduate clarified that the tuition fees are the same as those at universities across the UK, dispelling some misconceptions. The students then enjoyed lunch in the college’s 18th-century dining hall before attending a stimulating taster lecture on Apartheid in South Africa, delivered by a history PhD student. To conclude the day, the group toured Queen’s College, led by another Oxford student. With around 30 colleges at Oxford University, the students had a unique glimpse into the variety of options available within this prestigious institution.

Electronic dance workshop

In music, our BTEC year 10 students enjoyed an inspiring electronic dance workshop led by a professional DJ. The session, which also welcomed year 9 students, gave the students the chance to learn and experiment with the beats and rhythms that shape the world of electronic dance music. It was a fantastic opportunity for creativity and collaboration.

As the evening approached, a stroll by the river at sunset completed the day.
