Year 9 students had the opportunity to learn first-hand what it is like to study languages at university when they were visited by four undergraduate students from the University of Nottingham on 31st January.
The undergraduates, who between them study a range of languages including French, German, Russian, Chinese and Portuguese, delivered smaller group language taster sessions as well as presenting to the year group on the importance of studying foreign languages.
In a brilliant, interactive session they covered issues such as how the study of languages helps with career progression, which language courses are offered by universities, what to expect from a study year abroad as part of a university course and how the study of languages improves communication skills.
The Year 9s then had the chance to learn a few new phrases themselves during beginners language lessons in Russian and Portuguese!
Our sincere thanks to the students from the University of Nottingham who took the time to deliver the session for us.
