East Leake Academy, part of Diverse Academies, today saw students and staff celebrating another outstanding set of A Level results.

As the sixth form centre goes from strength to strength, students achieved a 100% pass rate yet again, with an average grade score of B. One in five students achieved A* or A grades across all of their qualifications and a third of all grades were A* or A.

Students achieved 82% A*-C grades and above, with an impressive 63% gaining A*-B grades (up from 62% in 2018). Achievement of A* and A grades also rose to 32%, a further uplift from 2018’s excellent results of 28%.

These superb results mean many will now take up their places at Oxbridge, Russell Group and top universities, as well as going on to undertake higher level apprenticeships.

One of this year’s top performers, Finlay Yates, achieved three A* grades in biology, chemistry and maths and will be heading to Oxford University to study biochemistry. He said: “I am delighted with my results and they are better than I expected! I’m now looking forward to taking up my place at Oxford and settling into university life.”

Another top performer, Tom Gibson, also achieved three A* grades in economics, geography and history and an A grade in his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). With a place secured at the University of Cambridge to study history, Tom said: “I am overwhelmed with my results and the hard work really paid off. I am so grateful to East Leake Academy staff for all the support they have given me over the past seven years.”

Sarah Pearce came away with three A grades in English language, English literature and art. She will be studying primary education at Nottingham Trent University and said she was “delighted with her results”. She added: “I can’t thank the teachers enough for all their help and support, especially Mr Ferguson and Mrs Slack.”

The hard work also paid off for Rosie Hill who also achieved three A grades in biology, chemistry and maths. With a keen interest in the sciences, she will now go on to study biomedical science at York.

Kathy Hardy, Principal said: “These are a phenomenal set of results and we are immensely proud and delighted with our students’ achievements. The years of dedication of our staff and students has really paid off.

“We are incredibly proud of the breadth of courses and enrichment opportunities we offer at post 16 level and the success students have achieved consistently across the board. Some of our students also received incredible results this year despite having to overcome personal difficulties – their hard work and dedication paid off and we couldn’t be more pleased for them. Where ever the next stage of their journey is, they all have very bright and exciting futures ahead of them – enjoy!”

The academy invites any students yet to secure a place with a post 16 provider for this September or students considering their post-GCSE options to visit www.eastleake-ac.org.uk or email sixthform@eastleake-ac.org.uk for more information.
