Year 8 students recently enjoyed an out-of-this-world educational visit to the National Space Centre in Leicester, where they spent the day exploring space science through interactive exhibits, immersive shows and hands-on learning experiences.
Organised as part of the science faculty’s enrichment programme, the trip gave students the chance to deepen their understanding of space, rockets and our solar system beyond the classroom.

One of the highlights of the visit was the journey through the solar system planetarium experience. Sitting beneath the impressive dome, students travelled virtually across our solar system, discovering fascinating facts about the eight planets and testing their knowledge through an interactive quiz. The experience ended with a spectacular exploration of the night sky, bringing constellations and distant stars to life.
Students also attended a live science show ‘It IS Rocket Science’, which proved both educational and entertaining. The interactive demonstration explored the history of rockets, from ancient fireworks to modern space exploration technology. Through exciting demonstrations, students learned about rocket fuel, powerful forces and the science that allows rockets to leave Earth’s atmosphere.
Beyond the shows, students had the opportunity to explore the centre’s impressive rocket tower and six interactive galleries. From learning about astronauts and satellites to discovering how space missions are planned and launched, there was plenty to capture their curiosity and inspire future scientists and engineers.

Throughout the day, students represented the school brilliantly, showing enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent behaviour.
The visit provided a fantastic opportunity to see real-world science in action and helped bring many of the concepts studied in lessons to life. With plenty of photos and videos captured during the day, it’s safe to say the trip was a memorable experience for everyone involved. 🌍✨
We look forward to offering more enrichment opportunities like this in the future.
