The 12 days of Christmas attendance event
On Wednesday 4 December, we launched our “12 days of Christmas” attendance initiative, designed to encourage and reward excellent attendance during the final weeks of term. From 4–19 December, every day a student attends school earns them a spot in a daily prize draw. Prizes become bigger as we approach the final day of term.
On Wednesday, students collecting prizes did so beside our beautifully decorated Christmas tree, kindly donated by Six Acre Nurseries and decorated by talented student hosts Olivia H & Emily K. The more days you attend, the more chances you have to win. So remember: Be IN to WIN!
Anti-bullying poster competition
We hosted a poster competition to raise awareness as part of our ongoing anti-bullying week efforts. We received an impressive 100 entries, each reflecting the theme of respect and support for others. Congratulations to Taylor D, Annabelle C, Oona S and Madeleine W, who each earned top places for their houses.
The results were:
- 1st Place: Osprey, earning 100 points
- 2nd Place: Eagle, earning 75 points
- 3rd Place: Kestrel, earning 50 points
- 4th Place: Harrier, earning 25 points
Thank you to all who participated. Your creativity and empathy have helped reinforce our academy values of care and respect.
KS3 University of Nottingham career workshop
This week, we hosted an interactive assembly and workshop for year 9 students designed to broaden their understanding of future career pathways and the qualifications that support them. Led by the University of Nottingham, the workshop encouraged students to explore various degrees and career options, while reflecting on their personal skills and how to present these effectively. They gained insights into university life, including the day-to-day structure of academic timetables, as well as the clubs, societies and enrichment activities available on campus. Beyond university, students learned about alternative routes such as colleges and apprenticeships and discovered the typical entry requirements for different fields. To finish, students had the opportunity to consider their upcoming GCSE choices, ensuring they make informed decisions aligned with their long-term aspirations.
The deadline for submitting options forms is 13 December. Visit year 9 options for more information.
Year 12 German literary challenge
This week, our year 12 German class took on the challenge of literary translation for their homework, tackling German poetry and transforming it into English verse. Impressively, they even managed to preserve rhyme schemes, showcasing not only their language skills but also their creativity. Students were excited to share their efforts and German lead, Mrs Chase, was very impressed with their work.

Support over Christmas
We understand that the Christmas break can be a challenging time for some young people. Without daily access to pastoral support, trusted adults and friends, students can feel isolated or uncertain during the holidays. Seasonal illnesses and service closures can also extend waiting times for both adult and young people’s NHS and community services.
To ensure support remains accessible, Kooth Digital Health services will be open throughout the winter period. Kooth provides a safe, confidential, and anonymous online space for young people to seek professional guidance, no matter when they need it.
