A fond farewell to Mr Renshaw after 39 years
On Thursday 24 July, East Leake Academy proudly celebrated the remarkable career of Phil Renshaw, who retired after an incredible 39 years of dedicated service.
The day was filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt tributes through a series of special events:
- Sixth form tea party – held in the common room, this provided an intimate start to the celebrations, bringing together current sixth form students to honour Mr Renshaw’s impact on their journey
- Whole school guard of honour – a moving moment as students and staff lined the classroom corridors, applauding Mr Renshaw on his final walk through the school he helped shape for nearly four decades

- Whole school assembly – taking place in the sports hall, the assembly was a joyful and emotional tribute, featuring a game of human Heads and Tails, a performance from the school choir, and a memorable duet of Sweet Caroline sung by Mr Renshaw and Mr Jackson
- Late afternoon party – hosted in the school’s main hall, the celebration welcomed colleagues, both past and present, former sixth form students, and Mr Renshaw’s family. It was a fitting send-off for someone who has meant so much to the school community
It was a superb farewell event—celebrating the career and legacy of a true legend. Mr Renshaw leaves behind not only a legacy of excellence but also countless memories and lives positively impacted throughout his time at the academy.
