Inspirational assemblies, European-themed activities and student successes across the academy!

Black History Month

A big round of applause to Max F, Jermaine D, Ashton R, Mia M, Thea W and Fraizer who supported Mr Chambers during the Black History Month assembly. Each student read about an influential black figure who contributed to social justice and the applause from their peers was truly moving.

European Week Celebrations

To celebrate European Week, students participated in a variety of engaging activities:

  • House quiz competitions: Students took part in quizzes about European music and food during Personal Development Lessons (PDL).
  • European bake-off: Year 7 students participated in a European-themed bake-off, judged by Mr Reid. The cakes were later sold at a cake sale, with proceeds going to MacMillan and the PTA.
  • Staff language badges: Staff proudly displayed badges indicating which languages they speak.
  • Cultural activities in modern foreign languages lessons: Year 7 students also created European-themed Christmas cards and explored various cultural traditions.

Post 16 students worked in teams to create a cake or sweet treat representing a European country. This activity allowed students to experiment with new flavours and recipes while learning about different culinary traditions.

Year 12 German workshop

Year 12 German students took part in a special workshop with Business Language Champions. The event, SCOOP! was designed for students interested in international journalism, creative writing, or simply practicing their language skills. The day included a newspaper challenge, a keynote talk by UEFA sports journalist Simon Hart and student presentations in their target languages. We are thrilled to announce that our year 12 students won the competition, proudly representing East Leake Academy!
